Discover the features of Su-22 aircraft falling near Phu Quy island
Vietnamese Su-22 attack aircraft are designed with special wing-wing penguins, suitable for off-shore and sea-based attack missions.
Learn the features of Su-22 aircraft
At about 11:30 pm on April 16, at the area near Phu Quy Island, Binh Thuan Province, two Vietnamese Air Force Su-22 attack aircraft were carrying out acrobatic exercises to cut the bomb. The search for pilots and aircraft wrecks is actively being implemented.
Su-22 is currently one of the main fighter aircraft of the Vietnam People's Air Force. It was staffed for all three air divisions, 370, 371 and 372, to serve in the defense of the airspace and the sea. Most Su-22 aircraft were supported by the Soviet Union in the 1980s and partly bought from Eastern European countries after 1990.
This is an attack aircraft that attacks all targets on the ground or at sea with controlled and non-controlled weapons.Even when needed, it is possible to prevent air defense.Currently, the 921 Red Star Fighter Air Force Regiment also uses Su-22 as a non-temporary air defense mission to replace the old MiG-21 fighter.
A special feature on Vietnamese Su-22 attack aircraft is the penguin wing design. That is, the wings of the aircraft can be extended or close to the fuselage. There are currently no countries in Southeast Asia owning similar Su-22 aircraft. In the picture is a Su-22, which is spreading its wings (above) and a winged wing (below) of the Polish Air Force.
The design of this wing helps the aircraft to fly low at high speeds or achieve high speeds beyond sound in the large ceiling.
When the wings spread out, the lift of the wing increased, allowing the aircraft to take off the short runway.
Su-22 attack aircraft equipped with Lyuka AL-21F3 turbojet engines allow to reach a maximum speed of 1,860km / h above a high altitude, a combat radius of more than 500km, a ceiling of more than 14km, transport Speed climbing 230m / s.
Among the Su-22 variants that Vietnam is using, the Su-22M4 is the most modern model. This is the last production variant with a significant upgrade in electronic systems including: RSDN navigation system, inertial navigation system, laser distance measuring system, SPO-15LE warning radar system. On the aircraft design additional air intake slots for additional air cooling engine flow.In the picture is a cockpit of a Su-22M4 Polish Air Force.
The Vietnamese Su-22M4 variant has also been equipped with a heat trap bait system to trick infrared-guided air-to-air missiles. In the picture is a Su-22M4 that launches the thermal trap.
In terms of firepower, the Su-22 attack aircraft was designed with 2 30mm guns (80 rounds of ammunition) placed in 2 wings, 2 under-wing mounts carrying 2 R-60 anti-air missiles (range 8km) and 10 racks (6 placed under the wings and 4 on the fuselage).
In ground attack, the Su-22 can carry bombs and rockets.Particularly the Su-22M4 variant carries both controlled weapons including: Kh-23 air-to-air missiles;anti-ground missile / anti-Kh-25 radar;Kh-28 anti-radar missile;Kh-29 / land-to-air missiles and laser-optical, optical bombs. In the photo is a Vietnamese technical officer preparing to install Kh-28 anti-radar missiles on Su-22M4.

The Su-22 can also mount rocket launchers from small to large.(Foreign artwork).
