Zhu Jiang, head of the WWF Northeast China Program Office, said the photos taken earlier this month are the first images of a wild Siberian tiger in mountainous areas.
According to Zhu Jiang, this proves that the mountains become an important habitat for endangered species. Since then, local governments need to take measures to protect them, especially to eliminate animal traps and improve efforts to protect many other animals.
WWF estimates there are fewer than 20 wild Siberian tigers left in China, living in mountainous areas in the northeastern provinces of Heilongjiang and Jilin.
Last month, a wild Siberian tiger was found in Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province. The cause according to scientists is because it is trapped by hunters.
A survey by WWF shows that an average of 1.6 km of traps are placed in a nature reserve with Siberian tigers in Heilongjiang and Jilin in the winter of last year.
'WWF hopes to work with local authorities to protect the Siberian tiger and restore its habitat. We want to help double the wild Siberia tiger in China by 2022, the tiger year , 'Zhu said in Xinhua.
