People have a strong influence on dog choices, but not always in a better way. Dogs are very caught up in our behavior, and sometimes they will ignore the logic to please their owners. But that may not be good for pets.

"I don't think domestication makes dogs less intelligent," said Hungarian researcher Agnes Erdohegyi. "In contrast, dogs exhibit special sophistication in understanding social situations. However, it is true that it is too focused on people sometimes to make them misbehave."

Erdohegyi is a researcher at the Institute of Customary Studies at Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest, Hungary. She and her colleagues recruited 42 dogs and owners to participate in the study. In the experiment, the researchers placed a ball under different plastic flower pots so that the dog could find and send a participant to the experiment to influence the concentration of the dog.

The dogs showed their logic when not being influenced by the participants, ie they deduced and solved the problem immediately. In the other case, they respond to the training and imitation of other people's behavior.

"Dogs, like babies, are very sensitive to the signs of human communication. This ability was born to select the necessary information in teaching situations," Eotvos Lorand said.
