Dragonfly grass is useful

PhD student Vu Thi Nga, Center for Research and Technology Transfer (Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry), has initially succeeded in studying the use of green grass dragonflies of Chrysopa sp.1 and Chrysopa sp.2 to kill harmful mealy bugs in soursop.

During the larval stage, the green dragonfly of Chrysopa sp.1 can eat an average of 27.4 adult mealybugs (a mealybug aphids can spawn 254 and reproduce within a month). The feeding characteristics of larvae are also quite interesting: they can attack fake mealy bugs with body lengths 2-3 times greater than them and their body widths 7-8 times larger. As for Chrysopa sp.2 , the average number of fake fake mealy bugs is 8.6.

The success of the study opened up a new prospect for biological control of harmful mealybug ( D. brevipes ) on soursop.
