Electric cars can be miniaturized

A group of experts from the Korea Institute of Advanced Science and Technology (KAIST) has introduced a miniature electric car to accommodate parking in a narrow space.

According to Phys.org, Professor In-Soo Suh and team members from KAIST say the unique electric vehicle is called Armadillo-T, the name of a mammal in South America. The ability to roll in a tough shell to deal with carnivores.

Similar to armadillo, the Armadillo-T electric car has the ability to roll body, reducing the size from 2.8 m to just 1.65 m. Normally, the Armadillo-T is still a four-wheeled electric vehicle, two seats.

The car's engine is mounted in the wheels, and the battery is mounted in the front. Therefore, when the car rolls the battery and the engine does not change position. Once rolled up, the lightweight (450kg) car will occupy just one-third of a 5m parking area, the standard parking size in Korea. Therefore, three Armadillo-T can be parked in one place.

The vehicle also has a 360-degree rotary control device, which allows the driver to easily park in narrow, difficult-to-move spaces. In-Soo Suh said that sooner or later most of the people in the cities would switch from using gasoline or gasoline to lightweight trains.

"The Armadillo-T can be an ideal vehicle for urban people," Suh said.
