Find the deepest animal

The worm has just been found under a gold mine in South Africa, the deepest living creature ever discovered.

The multicellular organism Halicephalobus mephisto lives at a depth of more than 3.5 km (deeper than any other known creature) found in the Witwatersrand basin, near Johannesburg. Previously scientists still believed that only single-celled bacteria could survive at such depths.

This worm is 0.5mm long (with a bug-like appearance often seen in rotten fruits, but is smaller in size) living in a 48-degree C hot water oozing from deep cracks in the ground, in particular, it Can survive in environments with almost no oxygen.

The research team at Princeton University (USA) said that this creature may have descended from the ground but was pushed to the ground since ancient times. Carbon dating has shown that they lived at such depths of 3,000-10,000 years ago.

The team said it would conduct further exploration underground to look for other unicellular animals.
