Firefighting ... power generation
An invention sponsored by the US Navy describes a simple way to generate electricity in an emergency or to stay in touch after a disaster. This solution does not require bulky generators or heavy battery packs.
The emergency task force will carry a fire tube in a collapsible state, with a foot pump at one end of the pipe and an air valve at the other end. The tube is then unloaded and people will step on their feet to pump air into the tube. Finally, the valve is opened at the other end to direct air through a small turbine, acting as a generator.
Continue pumping while controlling the safety of the valve so that the pressure in the tube remains constant. This ensures that the turbine's speed and power output are stable, without interruption, even when the pedal is tired, replaced by someone else.
