For the first time in history, two satellites crashed

A private US satellite that has just hit a satellite has stopped working in Russia and this is the first collision recorded in the history of conquering space.

The incident happened on 10/2 at an altitude of 790 km in the sky of Siberia. This is a very important orbital ring and satellites that monitor weather or communication signals often operate in this altitude.

"We believe this is the first time two satellites collided in orbit," said Les Kodlick, a spokesman for the STRATCOM agency of the US Air Force. STRATCOM tracks about 18,000 objects in the universe, including debris only about 10 cm in size.

Russian satellites were identified as Cosmos 2251 launched into orbit in September 1993. It has been deactivated for about 10 years. Meanwhile, US satellites belong to Iridium Satellite LLC. This company is examining the damage after this incident.

The International Space Station (ISS) operates at a lower orbit and is said to have no effect after the collision.
