Petra Diamonds discovered the aforementioned 29.6-carat treasure at the Cullinan mine, about 40km northeast of Pretoria.
'This is one of the most special stones found in Cullinan during mining,' the company said.
Petra once discovered a blue diamond weighing 25.5 carats, which sold for $ 16.9 million last year.
Petra expected the newly discovered diamond to be bought at a high price.
The Cullinan mine has exploited hundreds of large diamonds and is famous for finding blue diamonds, which are among the rarest diamonds in the world.
Petra Diamonds took over Cullinan mine in 2008. The company also operates in Botswana and Tanzania.
