They have developed their sense of smell, they use it to find potential food sources. Crab reaches sexual maturity after about 5 years, and the total life expectancy can be achieved over 60 years.

Large coconut crabs eat fruits, nuts, and the core of fallen trees, they climb up the coconut tree and eat the coconut by adding bark and eating coconut rice. However, coconut is not an important part of their diet.

Coconut crabs cannot swim, and will drown if submerged in water for a long time. Coconut crabs are found on islands in the Indian Ocean and areas of the Pacific Ocean as far east as the Gambier Islands, reflecting the distribution of coconut, it is extinct in most areas. Significant population, including mainland Australia and Madagascar.
