Ho Chi Minh City: More than 2,000 dengue cases in October

In October, Ho Chi Minh City had 2,054 cases of dengue fever (dengue), an increase of 50% over the same period last year and nearly doubled compared to August 2010. Thus, in 10 months of 2010, the number of cases of SXH in Ho Chi Minh City reached 7,794 cases.

That information has just been announced by HCMC Preventive Medical Center on November 5.

According to the warning of the Preventive Medicine Center, dengue is at the peak stage. Pediatric, Infection, Resuscitation departments of hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City are continuously overloaded.

Dengue disease in children is now more complicated, in many cases not only severe shock but also suffered from multiple injuries, coagulation, respiratory failure, . causing difficulties in treatment.

The Ministry of Health also warned that this year's rainy season will end later than the previous years, so dengue epidemic may last until the end of November. Localities need to strengthen the prevention of dengue.

Besides, hand, foot and mouth disease also tends to increase strongly. In October, the whole HCMC had 478 cases (up 29% from the previous month). From the beginning of the year until now, the number of cases of hand, foot and mouth disease in the whole city has increased to 3,061 cases, including one death.
