A recent solar storm has created auroras that dance around Earth's north and south poles.

Energy flares and coronal mass ejections from the Sun cause auroras to be visible further south than usual.

According to the Space Weather Prediction Center (USA), this solar storm is not expected to be as intense as the storm that occurred in May, but it can still disrupt communications, power grids and satellite operations.

Even when the aurora isn't clearly visible, night sky photos can still capture colors that are invisible to the naked eye.
