In just a few years, the rhino will become extinct

South African conservationists warn, if the rhino massacre is not prevented in time, in just six years, this rare animal in the world will become extinct.

The Vietnamese delegation is in South Africa to directly witness the threats to the survival of the rhino here and the rhino massacre to get horns, to meet consumption demand in some countries, in that is Vietnam.

During the meeting with the representative of the Endangered Wildlife Conservation Fund (EWT), the Vietnamese delegation was told about the reality of the massacre of rhinos in South Africa.

According to EWT, in the past 40 years, the amount of rhino in the world has decreased by 95%, to only 25,000 in nature. South Africa owns more than 70% of rhino populations worldwide, but in 2013 alone, at least more than 1,000 rhinos were massacred to meet consumption demand in Asian countries, including have Vietnam. Conservationists say the rhino massacre in South Africa does not tend to decline, but is even more intense. In the first eight months of this year, at least nearly 700 rhinos were killed.

"If this situation is not prevented in time, within 6 years, the rhino species in the world will become extinct," EWT warned.

The representative of the Vietnamese delegation, singer Hong Nhung, said: "Unfortunately, the last single horned rhino in Vietnam has been killed in Cat Tien National Park in 2010. Now more information about Rhino massacre in South Africa, I feel very sad. "

At the meeting, the delegates discussed together measures to put an end to the above situation, helping the future generation also have the opportunity to see these animals in nature, not just books. Conservationists say this requires cooperation and efforts of countries around the world, especially Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Hung Anh, Deputy Director of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department, General Department of Vietnam Customs, said: "Vietnam Customs wishes to have deeper and closer cooperation with South African Customs in the exchanging information on transnational rhino horn trade lines to thoroughly handle rhino horn trade ".

Scientists believe that blind faith in rhino horn effects as a medicinal cure and the use of rhino horn to show rank, status, has led to the demand for rhino horn. Increasing awareness leads to massacre of rhinos in South Africa.
