The plan to participate in the frozen body must be decided before the patient dies. In April 2016, Alcor Institute had 146 patients.

The freezing and preserving process begins immediately after the patient's "legal death" is declared. " Legal death" occurs when a patient falls into an irreversible condition and cannot sustain life with current technology. A person may decide to freeze the whole body or just the brain.

"Most of the frozen technicians agree that it is an experiment. Although the possibility of this method is very low, they think it is a reasonable job, " Ballard said.

The frozen process consists of 4 basic steps: transporting, stabilizing the body, transferring frozen solution and keeping it cold.

When the certificate is dead, the patient is immediately transferred to the nearest freezing facility. They are encouraged to move closer to a facility before dying to increase the success rate for the process. In the stable stage, they are placed in ice tanks.Their respiratory and blood circulation systems are artificially restored through a heart-lung machine.

After successful transportation and stabilization, the patient is transferred the frozen solution to the body. At this step, blood is replaced by a vitrification solution to reduce the ice crystals in the body at the cold holding stage.

Finally, the patient was kept cold under the control of the computer with a nitrogen-circulating fan system. At first, they were kept cold at 125 degrees Celsius for 3 hours, then gradually reduced to minus 190 degrees Celsius for long periods of storage.
