Material promises to make the tank super light

Chinese scientists have discovered a lightweight material, such as balloons, but solid metal, which could be used to make bulletproof military uniforms and tank covers.

New super lightweight material found

According to the SCMP, the material is lightweight, like a sponge, made up of graphene tubes, a carbon form in which the atoms are connected by honeycomb structure. The material is considered to be a metamaterial , with properties 207 times stiffer than steel, superconducting and superconducting.

This remarkable material has attracted much interest among researchers in recent years, according to scientists at the Shanghai Ceramics Institute at the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology.

According to a report in the Advanced Materials journal, the new material can withstand 40,000 times its weight without distortion. A graphene foam can withstand a pressure of 0.6895 N / cm 2 , equivalent to a water pressure of 10.9km below the seabed.

According to the researchers, the new material is more resistant to collisions than the graphene materials have been developed. It can fall to only 5% of its original size, and then return to its original shape, which remains intact after 1,000 times of impact.

Due to its lightweight, lightweight nature, new materials can be used as pads in bulletproof vests or tank covers to protect objects from impact.
