Meteors caused a mysterious explosion in America on May 10
On the evening of May 10, people along the Virginia coast called 911 to report a big explosion. The US aerospace agency has said it could be a meteorite.
This area has many military bases, so people here are very familiar with loud sounds. However, the last explosion was so unusual, that a woman said she felt like an earthquake, with strong sounds hitting walls and windows.
Maybe a meteorite caused a mysterious explosion in the US on May 10.(Illustration).
That may be the characteristic sound of an asteroid explosion."Such explosions can be very powerful, putting great pressure on walls and windows," said Joe Zawodny, a researcher at NASA's Langley Research Center.
Some meteorites are iron that will melt and burn on the falling road but remains intact. It sounded like a golf ball the size of 1,000 miles per hour, leaving a trail of sound waves when passing through the sky, and very close to the ground.
'Other meteorites break out on the way, creating explosive sounds and loud sounds ,' Zawodny explained.
Another possibility is that supersonic military aircraft exploded.'That may be the first possibility people often think of, but the sound in this case is very different. People hear double explosions if supersonic aircraft explode. But explosions due to supersonic aircraft usually only occur locally at certain locations, not along the path as in this case, 'Zawodny said.
Explosions caused by meteorites are not rare because they occur dozens of times each year in the United States. This meteorite may be the remnant of a meteor shower related to Halley Comet on May 6. Zawodny said that this explanation is not the final conclusion, unless someone sees the meteor's tail.
