According to the Los Angeles Times, after completing an important design review, Boeing completed a $ 2.8 billion contract with NASA, allowing full production of the rocket to begin. .
SLS was designed to carry astronauts and cargo, capable of carrying 77 tons of cargo in the test version and over 143 tons of cargo in the final version.
According to the plan, it will be used to launch the Orion spacecraft - which can carry four astronauts, out of the earth's low orbit for long periods of time and deep-lying destinations like asteroids. finely close to the earth, the moon, and finally Mars.
SLS is expected to have its first test flight in 2017 from Cape Canaveral, Florida. During this test, it will launch an uninhabited Orion ship, then in 2021 it will launch Orion with four NASA astronauts.
