New collection of butterflies on Phu Quoc Island
Wildlfife At Risk (WAR) has released a new set of 20 postcards on some of Phu Quoc's butterfly species. The purpose is to encourage and support ecotourism development here.
These postcards are sent to Phu Quoc National Park for the purpose of encouraging and supporting ecotourism development here. With this butterfly photo collection, WAR wants to focus on children to raise awareness about Vietnamese wildlife.
According to the website of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee, Phu Quoc island district has a natural area of 593.05 km2. Phu Quoc's tourism and trade potential is huge. Main production here is seafood and processing industry, with pepper, famous fish sauce. Phu Quoc has many rich primeval forests with a variety of plants and 140 species of animals.
Phu Quoc's natural terrain gently runs from south to north with 99 hills and mountains. Most of the waters around the island are shallow, with a depth of less than 10m. Particularly small island cluster of An Thoi port is completely separated from the southern tip of Phu Quoc island by a strait with a depth of more than 60m.
Phu Quoc National Park was established in accordance with Decision No. 91/2001 / QD-TTg dated June 8, 2001 of the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on the classification of the North Island Phu Nature Reserve. National into Phu Quoc National Park.
Loving season of butterflies on Phu Quoc Island
WAR is implementing a conservation project in Phu Quoc with its main partner, Phu Quoc National Park, and conducting activities to record new species for Phu Quoc and Vietnam. In addition to a number of research models for crab and butterfly farming, butterfly surveys, dragonflies and plants have been conducted. The survey results have recorded some interesting information for Vietnam's flora and fauna and thus support conservation.
Wildlife surveys, focusing on butterflies and dragonflies, have recorded four new species of dragonflies for Phu Quoc and Vietnam. These species are Rhyothemis obsolescens , Lyriothemis mortoni , Pseudagrion williamsonii , and Prodasineura auricolor .
In addition, a number of butterflies and dragonflies were recorded during the last days of the 2007 survey. These species are currently being tested by experts to confirm whether they are new species for Vietnam. .
This is one of the few collections that presents vivid images of butterflies on Phu Quoc Island.
