New mosquito nets

BASF, a German company, has produced a new type of screen that prevents mosquitoes. Currently this type of curtain is being tested in large numbers in India and Tanzania.

According to company researchers, the current type of screen can stop mosquitoes but cannot protect users if mosquitoes bite through the screen. The impregnation of mosquito repellent on the mosquito net can eliminate mosquitoes but often the chemicals will float away when the user washes the curtains.

To overcome this problem, BASF produced a polymer mesh with cross-stitched yarn that could retain pyrethroid insecticides in the yarn after several washings. Despite being washed 25 times, the amount of chemicals in the fiber is enough to spread to the surface of 'knocking out' any mosquitoes parked.

The production company said that the amount of mosquito killer used in this type of mosquito is not toxic to humans, babies can suck it up all night and remain safe.
