Newly discovered crocodile extremely rare on the mysterious island
Scientists have long thought that New Guinea, one of the most unspoiled islands in the world, has only one species of crocodile. They were found in 1928 but until now, they still question whether or not another species on this island.
A new research result has shown that there are two species of crocodile here.
Freshwater crocodiles are endemic to the mysterious island of New Guinea.
The first species is the crocodile New Guinea , endemic animal of this island. They live in both Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. They live in marshes and freshwater sources in the forest.
Dr. McMahan and his colleagues examined 51 crocodile skulls on the island and pointed out the differences between the northern and southern crocodiles. The difference is so great that it is recognized that they are two separate species.
The new discovery will have a major role in protecting and giving alligators on the island a chance to live. Environmental degradation, threats from humans have affected significantly in their numbers.
The freshwater crocodile living on this island is still considered the most special and rare species in the world.
