Nobel Prize-winning chemist died at age 95

AFP reported on June 17 that William Knowles, a Nobel laureate chemist, thanks to his work on drug treatment for Parkinson's disease, who died at age 95.

Mr. Knowles died on June 13, Reuters quoted his daughter, Elizabeth Knowles.

Mr. Knowles was born in 1947 in Taunton, Massachusetts (USA), working and researching for years of drug preparation at Monsanto.

In 2001, Mr. Knowles (then 85) and Ryoji Noyori (Japanese) and colleague Barry Sharplees were awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry.

His Nobel Prize-winning research is the preparation of the drug L-dopa, which helps reduce tremors and muscle stiffness in the early stages of Parkinson's disease.

Knowles graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1939, then successfully defended his doctoral thesis in 1942 at Columbia University (USA).

Elizabeth told Reuters Knowles took part in a $ 200,000 Nobel prize to his colleagues who helped him study L-dopa , and the rest he contributed to Harvard and Columbia.
