Oil history

First uses (Ancient civilization)

In the Middle East, hydrocarbures were first used. According to the Bible, it is the asphalt (asphalte or bitume) that the NOE has built for his ship (arche) and the mother of MOÏSE patted her son's son before dropping on the NIL.

The Egyptians also used to secure the preservation of their mummies.

In Europe, the oldest use of hydrocarbure is to put grease on the wheels of bullock cars, especially in medicine. Oil or bitume (greasy dark brown or brown stone, which is mixed with powdered limestone for artificial asphalte) is actually used to prepare plasticizers for topical application of back pain, wounds and swelling. .

STANDARD: (Distillation)

The origin of the distillation method is often discovered by accident for the first few times in the history of kerosene mixed with the first use.

In 1556, the mineralogist (minéralogiste) of Germany, Georg BAUER, often called GEORGIUS AGRICOLA, in his DE RE METALLICA, showing how to turn crude petroleum into tar (goudron) to paint.

In 1650, the distillation of crude kerosene (pétrole brut) to boiling, allowed us to obtain polishes (vernis), wax, grease, light oil.

GASOLINE (1855)

In 1855, American B. SILLIMAN, exploiting oil studies by European chemists, found a series of studies on distillation. He has been successful and has a number of products: tar, lubricant (huile lubrifiante), naphta (mixture of hydrocarbure), solvents (solvant) for paints and gasoline (as a chemical to cleanse). Now it is considered a produit mineur.

OIL LAMPS (1860)

Picture 2 of Oil history In addition to China, the use of kerosene as a substance to burn light began very late, when people succeeded in distillation to extract from the crude a colorless, inflammable liquid. and the fire does not emit a foul odor: it is burning oil (kerosene, pétrole lampant kerosene).

However, the oil used to ignite the lamp is actually in Europe in 1860.

KÉROSÈNE (1860)

At the same time, Samuel KIER distilled crude oil and sold part of this distillation under the name KÉROSÈNE. Samuel KIER was the inventor of " Kier aromatic resin " (baume de Lier) that he sold to pharmacies in New York for black liquid distillation on the water: crude oil (nappe d'eau)
