The mayor of the city, Thomas Maenino, said: "This is the worst flu epidemic since 2009, and is a serious threat. We are sure that we will be provided with enough vaccines. "This week, all people will get free vaccinations. I recommend that all elderly and children get vaccinated early because they are the most at risk."
Meanwhile, the hospitals no longer took a vacant spot. In particular, Boston General Hospital must receive up to 40 to 80 patients every day. A nurse said, "This morning, when we started working at 6:00 am, we had to receive hospital for more than 50 patients, the number is waiting for more."
Every year in the United States the proportion of people with influenza accounts for between 5% and 20% of the population. The number of deaths is usually up to 3000 people. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this year's flu season in hospitals raises patients with flu-like symptoms to 5.6% of the country's population, while last year it was only 2 ,2%.
