This photo was taken by photographer Levin Corbin Handy (grandson of famous American Civil War photographer - Matthew Brady), he used to take portraits and devote his work to the US government at the end. the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

General Grant's head is taken from this photo, taken in 1864 by photographer Edgar Guy Fowx.

The horse and the rider, which is General Alexander M. McCook, were also "used", this photo was taken in 1864.

And finally, the background is taken from a photo of a prisoner of secession during the civil war in the Battle of Fisher Hill, Virginia in 1864.
