Prime Minister directed: Emergency action against bird flu

Today, the Government will hold a conference to discuss emergency action plans when bird flu and human pandemic influenza occur. This is a deployment step in the proactive prevention and response plan if a pandemic occurs.

On October 15, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai instructed ministries and agencies to implement " synchronously implement emergency plans to prevent bird flu and human influenza pandemics ".

Accordingly, the Prime Minister asked the relevant ministries and agencies to complete emergency action plans for prevention of H5N1 influenza and human pandemic influenza and submit them to the Government for approval.

When approved, ministries and branches need to implement the plan in a spirit of urgency and initiative at the highest level. These agencies also need to develop a specific propaganda outline, avoid hasty, inaccurate reporting, causing confusion for people.

Particularly for MARD, the Prime Minister asked the agency to quickly coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to direct the temporary restriction of poultry development in high-risk areas of epidemics, with policy to support farmers to switch to other industries.

Continue to implement measures of hygiene and sterilization, to complete the vaccination against bird flu vaccines on schedule as approved.

For the Ministry of Health, the Prime Minister directed urgently to invest in equipment and upgrade medical facilities to be eligible to receive and treat patients when a pandemic occurs. In the immediate future, to promptly buy enough preventive medicine and 1,000 breathing machines, immediately invest in level 3 biological safety laboratories for emergency epidemic prevention .
