Rare animals will escape the brink of extinction?
The world currently has only 13 northern white rhinos (photos) while many other animals are also on the verge of extinction. Thomas Hildebrandt and colleagues at the Berlin Zoo and Wildlife Research Institute are pioneers of using artificial breeding methods to re-thin rhino, elephant and even Komodo lizards. rare in Indonesia.
In the past 6 years, only a northern white rhino was born. Dr. Hildebrandt said that only artificial insemination will not save this species. Therefore, his team developed a new reproductive support technique. After cooperating with a team of experts from the Netherlands, Australia and China, he successfully collected eggs of southern white rhino (with a larger number of individuals than the Northern white rhino) at Western Zoo. Plains in the state of New South Wales (Australia). These eggs are fertilized in vitro and have developed into embryos.
Later this year, experts will begin to take northern white rhino eggs in the Czech Republic and, if progressing well, some baby rhinos will be born.
Since 1989, Dr. Hildebrandt's group has been traveling around the world in hopes of saving rare animals. Many zoo and animal conservation projects in many countries have called on them in artificial breeding programs on animals.
