Until 1981, after three years of searching, seven individual storks were found in Shaanxi Province. Rapid conservation efforts were conducted to protect the ibis and their habitat. Japan even has to import them from China to restore this species.

Today, Chinese cricket populations have grown with more than 2,600 individuals, with more than 1000 individuals outside the wild. Most of them live in the south of the Qinling Mountains, Shaanxi Province. Some individuals have also been discovered on the side of Qinling Mountain in recent years.

Japanese storks are mostly eaten with mud, crab, frog and insect fish. In the winter of scarcity of food, bird carers will bring food to them. The current habitat of storks is about 14,000 km 2 .
