Ropits (short for Robot for Personal Intelligent Transport System ) is equipped with a global positioning chip, several cameras to view, laser sensors two-dimensional and three-dimensional to determine the distance and avoid obstacles. Gyro sensors help keep it stable on uneven surfaces.
Passengers climb to Ropits through a hatch in front. They click on a touch screen to announce the destination. After determining the destination, the Ropits will move on their own. In an emergency, the passenger can control the carriage with a cockpit.
Hitachi has been testing Ropits in the city of Tsukuba. Ropits' senior management advised the elderly and those who lost their ability to move normally. A lithium ion battery supplies power to Ropits, allowing it to travel at a speed of 6km / h.
