Russian media recently said food supplies to astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) have been reduced due to the effects of the Russian embargo.

Commenting on European Space Agency officials, The Moscow Times said Moscow's ban on European food imports has led some food to send astronauts unable to enter Russia.

Supplements such as candy and dried fruits sent by the astronauts' families are also not allowed to be brought into Russia, leading to the situation of astronauts being "in need".

However, some items are still available to astronauts thanks to the private Dragon and Cygnus cargo ships of the United States.

According to the BBC, after the US shuttle fleet "retired" , bringing astronauts and cargo to the ISS largely depends on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft.

There are currently six astronauts working on the ISS including three Russians, two Americans and a German.
