Solar car set a world record

Marcelo da Luz, a Toronto citizen, has just set a world record when he crosses the 15,000km mark with a solar powered car named " Power of One ," or Xof1.

Departing from Toronto in June 2008, Da Luz traveled through 44 cities in Canada. October 30, he ended his trip in Victoria after a journey of 140 days.

With this record, he broke the previous record set by an Australian team in January 2002 with a distance of 13,000 km.

On the road, the Xof1 of Luz looks like an ' unidentified flying object' (UFO). It can travel at a maximum speed of 120 km / h and travel 200 km after each solar charge . "

Da Luz said he built the car independently without anyone cooperating or helping to prove a person can make a difference in helping to protect the environment.

Xof1 has ' consumed ' Luz's skin about half a million dollars.
