Sparrow carrying H5N1
Chinese scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virus Studies (Hubei) have reported the discovery of the H5N1 virus on finches two years ago. This is the first time scientists have found this dangerous virus in non-migratory birds (China used to assume that the cause of bird flu outbreaks is due to migratory birds). .
According to Li Tian-Tien, a researcher at Wuhan Academy, the H5N1 virus was found among 25 finches of finches just after the bird flu outbreak in Ha Nam province in 2004. However, Mr. Li reassure us that we should not worry because since then there has been no sign of the sparrow being affected by this bird flu.
As the country with the largest number of poultry in the world, China has always been at the heart of the fight against bird flu. So far China has 21 people infected with H5N1, of which 14 died.
