Known as a " closed " country to the outside world, North Korea has caused countless curiosities. When North Korea officially launched its Internet coverage to its people in 2009, people had been looking forward to a more openness from Korea, but things didn't work out.

North Korea's Internet is called "Kwangmyong" . It is not the real Internet, because it is limited and can only access limited websites . People cannot access international sites.

"Kwangmyong " is provided free of charge, mainly through the library system and computers there. But because it is a poor country, public services such as libraries are still very limited, only a few people have access.

The only Internet service provider here is Star Joint Venture. This company is a joint venture between the Korean government and Thailand-based Telecommunication Corporation, Loxley Pacific. Before this network, North Korea asked Germany to mediate its Internet system.
