Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942, on the 300th anniversary of the loss of Italian Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics Galileo Galile, in Oxford, England. He is the eldest of four families (the youngest is adopted). His parents, Frank and Isobel Hawking, are alumni of Oxford University.

In 1950, Mr. Frank Hawking took the position of head of the Department of Parasitology at the National Institute of Medical Research. His family moved to St Albans in Hertfordshire county. At the beginning of school, he was a smart student but his academic results were not outstanding. When he was studying at Byron House, he could not even read well and blame the teacher's teaching method.
At the age of 8, Stephen Hawking attended St Albans Girls 'High School (at that time, little boys could learn girls' school). In his early years, he was one of the three worst learners in the class.
At the age of 13, he was directed to the prestigious Westminster School, but Hawking fell ill on the scholarship exam day. The family could not afford to pay tuition so he continued to study at St Albans. He and his group of friends often play chess, an intellectual game that helps develop thinking, ability to reason, communicate and judge, create fireworks, model aircraft, boats.
In 1958, thanks to the help of math teacher Dikran Tahta, they successfully built a computer with components taken from watches, old phones and other recycled materials.
Although friends often call Stephen Hawking 'Einstein' , his study results are not really outstanding. However, Hawking revealed talent in science. Following Tahta's advice, he decided to study Math. His father advised him to study Medicine because he was worried that he would not apply for a job.
Listening to his father, Stephen Hawking attended the University College in Oxford but studied Physics and Chemistry because the school did not have a Mathematics major. In March 1959, he took the exam and was awarded a scholarship.
In October 1959, Stephen became an Oxford University student at the age of 17. In the first 18 months, he always felt depressed and lonely because he was younger than other students and . learning was easy.
Later, Robert Berman, his Professor of Physics, commented on the talented student: 'Just knowing that can be done, he will do it without studying other people's ways'.
In his second school year, Stephen Hawking wanted to fit in with friends, become an active, witty person. He joined the school's sailing club. According to the coaches, Hawking was a bold student, often leading his team to follow dangerous routes that damaged the boat.
He does not pay much attention to studying and usually only learns one hour a day. This way of learning made him difficult to take exams because he only answered theoretical Physics questions and ignored questions that required practical knowledge. Meanwhile, he needed a first-class honors degree to be able to enroll in Cosmology at Cambridge University as planned.
The exam was stressful, Hawking's results were between first and second boundaries. He needed an oral exam to classify.
Hawking worried that the judges would consider him a lazy, fastidious candidate, so when asked to describe the future plan, he said: 'If you give me first rank, I will go to Cambridge. If I get second, I will stay in Oxford. So I hope you give me first class. '
In the end, Hawking took first place and began pursuing a PhD at the top UK university.
This was one of the tough times in the genius physicist's life when he was not guided by the expected professor, and had a health problem. After suffering from atrophic sclerosis, diagnosed by a doctor could not live more than two years, Hawking collapsed.
The doctors advised him to continue the study but he felt no longer meaningful. However, the relationship with Jane Wilde, his sister's friend, has energized the genius scientist. Later, Hawking said that it was the engagement ceremony in October 1964 that gave him 'reason to live'.
He returned to the study, the disease progressed more slowly than the doctor predicted, while breaking the initial diagnosis of Hawking's life.
