The glass changes color as desired

Just turning a small button on the glass can change the color of the glasses to any color on demand, and only in a flash.

"We have made other lenses of any kind in the market today, " said Chunye Xu, a chemistry engineer at Washington University in Seattle, USA. "This may be the fashion of the future."

This lens is made of an electrochromic polymer Omic material can change the brightness and color automatically when the current passes. For the glasses to work, people only need to recharge when they want to change colors. So far, Xu and his co-workers have developed eyeglasses similar to a pair of sunglasses with a circular disk attached to the frame. When rotating the disc, it activates a tiny electric battery, charging the glasses and changing to the color they need.

One such battery can be charged for thousands of color changes, Xu said. In the lab, researchers changed the glass color quickly from transparent to blue, changing the darkness between the glass.

The product was introduced at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society, yesterday. The research team is trying to create a product that can convert a variety of colors.
