The mysterious giant hole appears between Antarctica

A giant wormhole of tens of thousands of square kilometers that has just appeared in the middle of the Antarctic ice sheet has led scientists to argue about the formation.

According to Radio Sputnik (Russia), this deep pit has an area of about 80,000 km 2 , equivalent to the area of Austria or the US state of Maine. It had suddenly appeared without warning signs or obvious causes.

The pits still continuously formed in Antarctica. They are called polynya and form on frozen water along the Antarctic coastline. Circulation of moist water or ocean currents is the reason these pits appear. Usually they will disappear after a few months.

However, this massive giant reservoir of Austrian water does not appear along the Antarctic coast, which has frozen waters. Instead, it appears deep in the hinterland for hundreds of kilometers. Kent Moore meteorology professor at the University of Toronto described this giant wormhole as impressive as if someone had punched a hole in the ice.

'It is hundreds of kilometers away from the edge of the ice. If we don't have observing satellites, we won't be able to know its presence , 'Moore added. A polynya appeared in that location 40 years ago.

According to Moore, this mysterious hole appeared in September. Meteorologists are very excited to study this wormhole.

Scientists and the public predict that the cause of polynya appears to be due to climate change , but Mr. Moore said that it was the deep hole that was there 40 years ago that caused this.

However, the appearance of this polynya will affect the world's oceans. Once the frozen seawater melts, it can divert convection flow.
