The sacred valley buried the mystery of the 'headless person': 100 years of recording 44 cold cases

This wild valley is not only inhospitable due to its rugged terrain, weather and wildlife, but it is also known for a number of unexplained stories. Over the decades, there have been unfortunate travelers and adventurers who have gone missing. Some were even found beheaded.

The ever-increasing number of bodies found in the Nahanni valley has earned it the nickname "Valley of the Headless".

Few people know that the Nahanni valley was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1978. In fact, it was one of the first four natural heritage sites to be recognized.

Due to its remote location, the Nahanni valley has remained largely untouched through the centuries. Historically, the land around the Nahanni valley was inhabited by peoples of the indigenous tribe of Dene. According to stories passed down through the generations, there is another tribe here called the Naha.

The warrior tribe evaporated without a trace

It is said that the Naha are a warlike tribe, who live in the high mountains and come down to the plains to ravage and kill. They became the main enemy of the Dene people.

However, according to the story, the Naha people disappeared completely without a trace. They leave without leaving a trace. There are many theories as to whether they have migrated to other places, battled diseases, died slowly, or simply chose to live in seclusion. However, all of this is just speculation.

Later, strange deaths and disappearances in the Nahanni valley rekindled the mystery surrounding this place. The most notable place is "200 Mile Gorge". The natives say that there is an unknown demon inhabiting there.

The origins of this odd moniker can be traced back to the early 20th century, at a time when the "Klondike Gold Rush" arose. Many people who wanted to try their luck went to the remote Canadian wilderness, especially the Yukon. The reason was because they heard that there was a lot of gold mixed in the river and the land.

Two of them decided to try their luck in Nahanni Valley. They are two brothers from the same Métis background named Willie and Frank McLeod. In 1906, they took a canoe upstream to the Nahanni Valley, and that was the last time they were seen alive.

Two years later, a search team discovered their skeletons. Both are headless. Apparently, they were sleeping when they were attacked. One of their companions named Weir has gone missing.

From here on, the mysteries become more and more thrilling. Who is the culprit? What did they encounter? Rumors began to spread, and many theories were put forward.

Looking for solutions for headless victims

An article from the February 15, 1947 issue of "Deseret News", titled "Legends of the Headless Valley Dispelled", attempted to debunk all the mysteries and find out. logic for the murders here. However, much of the article's content has no basis and is just conjecture.

In 1927, another body was discovered in Nahanni, belonging to a man nicknamed "Yukon" Fisher. The man was wanted by police for several years before his death. Officials found his skeleton on the banks of Bennett Creek, quite close to where the McLeod brothers were found in 1908. His cause of death has never been clarified.

Since then, mysterious deaths continue to occur in the Nahanni valley. In 1945, a miner from Ontario was found dead while still in his sleeping bag. His head was never found.

In the end, no one could exactly explain the creepy forest events that took place inside the mysterious Nahanni valley. As many as 44 people have died or gone missing in it since 1908. Strange stories have brought a dark color to this place.

Others say that the Nahanni valley is the entrance to the "Hollow Earth". In fact, there are many underground caves here. It is estimated that about 250 caves have been found and many are still unexplored.

However, Nahanni is a land of mystery. People are still looking for answers to this place and hopefully one day this veil of secrecy will be revealed.
