Sacred mountain Sulaiman-Too - World cultural heritage in Kyrgyzstan
Unesco's Scientific, Educational and Cultural Organization recognized the Sacred Mountain Sulaiman-Too of Kyrgyzstan as a World Cultural Heritage in 2009.
Sulaiman-Too is a sacred mountain in Kyrgyzstan, in the local language, Sulaiman Too means Solomon's Crown . In the Quran , Solomon is a great prophet . Geographically, sacred mountain Sulaiman-Too is located near Osh city in Kyrgystan. Located at the private intersection on an important route called "Silk Road ", it is understandable why this mountain plays an extremely important role in geography and history.
For more than a half a millennium, Sulaiman-Too is considered a lighthouse to show the way for groups of people passing through the Silk Road. The mountain is extremely sacred on this road, because the people who travel are heading to the mountain to pray for their journey to be safe, smooth sailing.
It is not natural that this mountain is revered as such. The reason for this is because there are countless temples and shrines on the mountain. Beginning suicide between the mountainside and the summit there are many ancient places of worship, including caves with petroglyphs , mosques and several small shrines. According to the records, the two mosques on Sulaiman-Too Mountain were built in the 16th century. The small shrines were built around the 17th century. But worship caves have carved paintings. stone formed earlier than before. The sacred mountain Sulaiman-Too can be considered a symbol of Muslim belief in Central Asia. Not only does it mean religious values, the sacred mountain Sulaiman-Too also dominates the landscape around Fergana valley and contributes to the formation of Osh city landscape .
During the Middle Ages, the city of Osh was the largest city in Fergana Valley, and also a major city on the Central Asia Silk Route. Traders on the trading street all have to visit the city to trade goods or buy more food to go on the road.
Two mosques built on the sacred mountain of Sulaiman-Too are still preserved completely. A very small part is affected by climate as well as time but in general these two churches still retain their appearance when they were built in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Sacred mountain Sulaiman-Too of Kyrgyzstan is recognized by the Unesco Organization as a World Cultural Heritage by criteria (iii), (v).
