The sound of water drops

Scientists have found a way to use sound waves to lift droplets, a technique that could lead to the development of new drugs that allow the body to absorb easily.

To create the phenomenon, experts use a device that contains a pair of small speakers, emitting sound waves with frequencies greater than the human hearing threshold, about 22 kilohertz (kHz).

The speakers are aligned so that sound waves emit interference and create so-called standing waves.

The points of intersection along the vertical axis are called intersections, the sound pressure from the sound waves is sufficient to neutralize the effect of gravity, allowing light-weight objects to remain in place prior to placement, According to a press release from Argonne National Laboratory (USA).

This phenomenon was first detected by NASA experts and used to replicate microgravity environments, according to NBC News.

Chris Benmore, an X-ray physicist at the Argonne National Laboratory and his colleagues, has modified the technique to turn the chemical mixture into a form that the body easily absorbs.

At the molecular level, the drug structures are divided into two types: amorphous or crystalline. Amorphous drugs are more readily soluble and more potent, meaning that low doses are as effective as expected.
