The toilet is capable of generating electricity from waste

Researchers at Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU) are studying how cities and towns can help themselves by turning waste into electricity.

To achieve this goal, the team has created a sanitation system that turns human waste into biogas. This gas is then used to cook and create electricity, in addition to turning it into biodiesel fuel.

According to the BBC, the NTU sanitation system, called No-Mix Vacuum Toilet , has two chambers for liquid and solid waste. Using vacuum technology , the same technology used in airplane cleaners, the liquid waste discharge takes only 0.2 liters of clean water, while the solid waste takes only 1 liter of water. Modern toilet systems often lose from 4 to 6 liters of water to dispose of waste. If installed in a public toilet, the system can save 160,000 liters of water per year.

It does not stop there, the system of sorting waste from the beginning makes the treatment process is very easy, cost savings. The use of waste to produce biogas is simpler thanks to this factor.

NTU scientists are currently testing the new system in two school toilets. If things go well, the world can be seen, even using this advanced sanitation system in the next 3 years.
