The 23-year-old Fairbum, originally from Norwich, but now living in Cardiff, sketches a curve of eyelashes with a single path while a large road can spread across proportional slabs. Large create sketch of a breast or lips.

Fairbum sometimes spends months carving carefully diagonal faces that are hidden in topographic surfaces. He said: 'I started creating portraits with maps last August following some previous work using wood to create skin types. I enjoy working with different surfaces and being creative with the context with my work while looking at different locations and situations, so a single map is the result of that.

I have different principles for different maps. Simple things like traffic maps, I use roads like the boundaries of colors. Most maps I will not draw on water when it is not special but they add something to the picture.

When I needed a copy, I went to buy at charity shops and used bookstores and took all kinds of maps from there. I spread out the maps in the store to see everything but often had trouble bringing them together.

The shape of each map is the most important thing. A clear landscape is not good. They need to be portrait-oriented where there are not many of them.

Placing the maps in front of me, I could imagine the size and what I could do with the map I bought. I have too many maps so I can only finish using about 10% of them so my workshop is full of maps'.

Fairbum usually spent a few weeks working carefully and diligently to create their own portraits, but sometimes he also worked overnight to complete pieces of the map within a few days.

He added: 'Sometimes I see images or special poses in a map and draw around it but it is very flexible. I can draw almost any image on any map. If I look at the map long enough, I will find a place to put the portrait. One of the things that fascinated me was their style (the way they were arranged, arranged) - there was a large network and there was always a recipe there. "

I worked with a map from a map of France and it recalled memories of a ride on ice car across Europe a few years ago, many of which I did not remember anymore.

You will also discover a lot of destined place names - Of course, Germany has a few places like that. All the originals I have are holding before an exhibition so now I am selling really popular drawings.

I have concerns about other ideas that I am going on but I am sure that I will create beautiful works just as easily as I find them very interesting.
