Unprecedented discovery inside the Earth's core
Recent research indicates that a layer of snow iron is formed and depositing the inner core of the Earth.
According to research published in the journal JGR Solid Earth on December 23, the snow is made up of small iron particles. They fall from the outer molten core of the Earth and pile on top of the inner core.

Jung-Fu Lin, a professor at the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas, author of the study, said that we know a lot of information about the Earth's crust but the inner core remains a mystery. .
"That's something worth thinking about. Crystals from the outer core fall to the inner core at a distance of several hundred kilometers," said Nick Dygert, co-author of the study.
The study compares the "snow" layer of iron with the magma cavity, a large liquid rock lake below the Earth's surface. In magma chambers, the minerals compress to create what researchers call a "cumulative stone".
The new discovery could help geologists better understand how planets like the Earth formed.
"The study allows us to draw conclusions about the possible components in the liquid core and can link this information to the common conditions at the time the planet was formed. an important factor for the Earth to become the planet we know, "said Bruce Buffet, professor of geoscience at the University of California.
