Video: Watch the New Shepard rocket land on Earth
The private space company Blue Origin just posted on YouTube a video showing the process of their New Shepard rocket returning to Earth from space, under the rotation of a camera mounted right on the rocket. It was the third time that the company founded by Jeff Bezos could successfully land missiles, after a test flight earlier this month. New Shepard appears in the video above as a reusable rocket, designed to take a crew up to a height of almost 100km above the surface of the Earth.
Until now, Blue Origin successfully launched and landed New Shepard 3 times.
When launched into space, the chamber will separate from the rocket, allowing passengers to experience the feeling of living in a zero-gravity environment for a few minutes and watching the Earth from afar. After that, both the storage compartment and the rocket fell back to Earth. Although it will help that vessel land safely on the ground, while the rest of the missile must be supported by propulsion and landing pins, it will be possible to return to our planet. That is similar to what SpaceX does, but it is somewhat simpler because missile heights reach not too high.
In the video, you can see Shepard's landing pins being deployed as the missiles close to the ground, through their shadows on the ground. Until now, Blue Origin successfully launched and landed New Shepard 3 times. The company also said it plans to start flight test flights with crews in 2017, then deploy on a large scale and bring tourists to space in 2018.
