Vietnam makes heat-resistant paints for rocket engines

Scientists at the Institute of Technology (General Department of Defense Industry) have researched to perfect the technology of manufacturing heat-resistant paint used for low-range anti-aircraft missile engines and jet bullets.

Technology can be applied on an industrial scale. Heat-resistant paint products have technical specifications such as: color, fineness, content of non-volatile substances, viscosity, drying time of the film, adhesion, hardness, heat resistance of paint film , impact resistance, flexural strength . are satisfactory.

The process of fabricating, manufacturing and repairing military weapons and military equipment, especially low-range anti-air missile engines and jet bullets in defense plants needs a large amount of heat-resistant paint, the way heat. In order to meet the demand for use, limiting the import, in the past, the Institute of Technology was assigned by the Ministry of Defense to study the topic: 'Research on manufacturing technology, heat-resistant paint coating technology, ways heat inside the low-range anti-aircraft missile engine shell and jet bullets'.

The project has been completed, achieved positive results, creating a premise for research and trial preparation in later stages. However, the research results still have some limitations such as: The application of paint components is still low; has not yet studied the process of technology on real bullets but only at sample bullets . For the purpose of improving production technology to be widely applied in practice, the research group of the Institute of Technology has continue to study and survey the technical features of heat-resistant paint films, insulated inside the engine shells PG-9, B41M and imported paint samples; choose materials, build research applications, analyze the quality of research paint films . Since then, have finished the product paint component (compared to the research period, additional paint ingredients are added 6-8% Titanium dioxide powder thus increases hardness, adding anti-settling ingredient .). Researchers have also completed coating technology, spraying paint products .

Heat-resistant paint products have been painted on real bullets and tested. The firing results, kinematic parameters (pressure variation according to fire time, engine working time .) are within the permissible error range; The results of measuring the temperature of the outside of the engine shell of the test paint and imported paint samples were similar, indicating that the insulation ability of the test paint was satisfactory. The Council of Science and Technology advises to evaluate the results of the Ministry of Defense scientific research results, which has accepted the research results to be quite good.
