Vietnam produces vaccines to prevent new strains of influenza A / H5N1

Navetco Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company has just produced 1.5 million doses of A / H5N1 avian influenza vaccine (Navet - Fluvac 2) on an industrial scale to test and test in practice.

Vaccine batches were initially tested at the grassroots level by serological methods, virulence, determined PD50, and rated good. The A / H5N1 Fluvac 2 avian influenza vaccine is currently in the national testing and testing phase.

This is the result from the pilot production project "Perfecting the production process of inactivated oil emulsion vaccines against influenza A / H5N1 for poultry due to new strains caused in Vietnam" due to Central Veterinary Drug Joint Stock Company (Navetco) presided over. The project belongs to the National Product Development Program by 2020 chaired by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Director of Navetco Research Center, the project implementation unit said that by June 2019 the project ended but the progress has now reached 80-90%.

Completing the goal, the research team will create a new product Navet Fluvac 2, which includes two types of dual antigens that can protect against avian influenza viruses circulating in Vietnam. Men like H5N1 with different branches 1.1, 2.3.2.1.c and H5N6.

"When there is this vaccine, the ability to prevent diseases can cover the viruses that are circulating in Vietnam. In the coming time, Vietnam will not have to import vaccines due to active production in the country, the price is much lower. compared with foreign imports, " Dung said.

Mr. Dung said, in order to achieve this, the company received support from the Office of Programs from the time of proposal, construction until the project implementation. The two sides regularly connect, report progress and check the reality, remove problems during implementation.

The investment of funds for active research of original breeds is very important, thereby creating new, suitable antigens for viruses circulating in Vietnam.

"We are working with the original Biotechnology Research Institute for Biotechnology to take the initiative in reverse genetics to create new strains with new strains occurring in Vietnam," Dung said.

1. Studying the production of inactivated oil emulsion vaccine against influenza A / H5N1 for poultry caused by new strains in Vietnam.

The project started implementation from 2017, ending 2019.
