What do children around the world eat for a week? The unique set of photos captures a lot of interesting things

In 2019, Gregg Segal - an American photographer released his special book called Daily Bread. His photo series 'What children around the world eat' has attracted media attention. Segal has spent many years tracking and reflecting on the lives of 52 children around the world through a strange way, through the foods they eat in a week.

To create the photos for the project is an elaborate and expensive process. First, manufacturers in each country looked for children to record everything they ate in a week. After that, a group of chefs went shopping and remade the dishes. Segal then arranged all the food in a studio and photographed the children surrounded by their weekly meals.

What surprised the photographer most was the similarity in the diets of children in different countries. A lot of packaged food and fast food appeared.

Segal said: 'The kids I meet have different personalities and diverse interests, but they often eat in strange ways. For example, compare the diets of Paulo from Sicily and Isaiah from Los Angeles. In the past, a Sicilian boy would grow up eating very different foods from his American peers, but now their diets are becoming similar. Both Paulo and Isaiah eat fries, burgers, pizza, pasta, and white bread. They live far apart on continents, but it's as if the boys' parents were shopping at the same global supermarket!"
