2017 Nobel Medicine for discovering the mechanism of biological rhythm control

The owner of the Nobel Medicine Biology 2017 was awarded to scientists Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael W. Young for discoveries on the molecular mechanism of biological rhythm control.

All three scientists are currently working at US universities.

Professor Jeffrey C. Hall is teaching at Maine University while Michael Rosbash is teaching at Brandeis University in Waltham and Professor Michael Young is currently teaching at Rockefeller University in New York.

Before the award ceremony, Sweden's SR public radio predicted the Nobel Prize for Biomedical Medicine could be given to researchers who found a way to treat hepatitis C. They include German scientist Ralf Bartenschlager two Americans Charles Rice and Michael Sofia. This trio also won Lasker, one of the major international awards in medicine, in 2016 on a similar project.

Since 1901, the Nobel Committee has awarded the Biomedical Prize to 106 individuals and collectives. However, only 12 women won this award.

Last year, the 2016 Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded to Japanese scientist Yoshinori Ohsumi for his work on self-realization (self-feeding) and cell regeneration. Mr. Ohsumi was born in 1945 in Fukuoka (Japan) and is currently a professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology.

The youngest person to receive this honor is Frederick Banting (1891 - 1941). He received the prize at age 32 with his research on insulin. Meanwhile, the oldest scientist who received the award was Peyton Rous (1879-1970) at the age of 87 thanks to his research on cancer-causing viruses.

The following awards will be published, including Physics (October 3), Chemistry (October 4), Peace (October 6) and Economics (October 9). The committee has not yet set a date to award the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Scheduled schedule to announce the Nobel Prize in the areas of 2017:

  1. October 3 announced the Nobel Prize for Physics
  2. October 4 announced the Nobel Prize in Chemistry
  3. October 6 announced the Nobel Peace Prize
  4. October 9 announced the Nobel Prize in Economics
  5. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has not officially announced the date of the Nobel Prize for Literature, but it is likely to fall on October 5 or October 12.
