4 super unique technologies just launched
MWC 2018 is not only a landmark of smartphones, but also a gathering place for many other unique technologies.
Among them are Modius weight loss headphones, PureLiFi light-up Internet technology, gesture control with Labrad Labels ultrasonic technology and wireless charging technology from Energous and Ossia.
Modius weight loss headphones
Modius helps to suppress appetite or speed up metabolism by ejecting electricity rays about one hour a day.
It sounds crazy but the manufacturer promises Modius completely harmless to human health. Modius is the product of one of the founders of the company, neuroscience doctor Jason McKeown MD.

Wearing a Modius earpiece will feel tingling due to the electric beam coming into the bone area behind the ear. There are 10 levels of discharge for users to experience.
Modius is considered a healthy effective weight loss method. The product is priced at 250 USD. There are 4,000 headsets on the market. Everyday users only need to wear about 45 minutes.
Last year, PureLiFi won a high award at MWC 2017. This year the company continues to demonstrate Internet connectivity solutions for mobile devices with light technology.
PureLiFi brings MWC 2018 integrated signal receiver for Dell laptops and Samsung Galaxy S5 phone covers. This device allows high-speed connection to the Internet.

Testing shows that Digital Trends video playback on Galaxy S5 is smooth. Download speed reaches 42 Mbps.
The PureLiFi technology is still quite cumbersome. Smartphone scaling and optimization is expected to be completed in three years.

Gesture control using ultrasonic technology
Labrad Lab Labels for each performed ultrasonic technology can replace proximity sensors on smartphones, help turn on the phone screen when hands or face approach at close distance.
This technology also appears on Xiaomi's Mi Mix phone model, allowing the manufacturer to make maximum thin edges of the screen.
Labrad Labels adds some tasks using ultrasound technology to help increase or decrease volume and take selfie photos.
Control smart speaker with ultrasonic technology of Labrad Labels.
At MWC 2018, Labrad Labels demonstrates the ability to control smart speakers and speaker lights by simple gestures at short distances.
For example, clap twice to activate Alexa virtual assistant, clap once to turn off this function without touching the speaker or making a voice.
In addition, the light intensity of the lamp can be controlled by holding hands. For example, when holding the hand on the left side of the speaker, the lamp will light up, while the hand holding the right side of the lamp will darken.
Wireless charging at a distance
It is much more interesting if the smartphone is charged right in the pocket, or smartwatch is charged on the user's wrist.
Energous is realized at MWC 2018 by the smart speaker prototype, which acts as a transmitter, can transmit energy through audio frequencies to smartphones, smartwatches and wireless headsets in about 1 meter.
The top of the speaker acts as an asymptotic charging table, like the Qi wireless charger. Energous technology has been approved by the FCC, which means it is safe to confirm. Energous's first product is the smart underwear called Skiin.
Energous technology can charge wirelessly in about 1 meter.
Energous has partnered with Dialog chip maker to integrate this technology into the chipset.
Imagine a company like Apple with an ecosystem that includes speakers that act as power transmitters, helping to charge remotely for iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPod headphones. This scenario could be realized in the next 2-3 years.
Also at MWC 2018, the Ossia company demonstrated wireless charging technology at a distance. The technology that the company uses can transmit energy through radio waves at 2.4 Ghz, similar to Wi-Fi frequencies but in other channels, so it doesn't conflict with each other.
At MWC 2018, Ossia technical director Hatem Zeine demonstrated the wireless charging capability for Samsung Galaxy S7.
The phone is still charging even when moving 3 meters away from the transmitter. Of course, the farther away the transmitter is, the lower the intensity of charging.
Ossia wireless charger for wireless remote.
Imagine Ossia's energy generator placed on the ceiling of Starbucks. When you step in, the phone or smartwatch will automatically charge the battery without you having to do anything.
Ossia also demonstrates both permanent batteries of the same size as standard AA batteries, but can charge wirelessly at a distance and without bottles over time because there is no need for an internal chemical reaction.
Ossia's technology has not yet been approved by the FCC, but Hatem Zeine is confident they will achieve it. The company has worked with several manufacturers on the ability to integrate this technology into chipsets and mobile devices.
