Located in Homs Governorate in the territory of Syria today, the ancient city of Palmyra is considered one of the most magnificent cities in ancient times 2,000 years ago.

Having a history dating back to 2000 BC, the importance of the city of Palmyra was confirmed around 300 BC, when trade groups considered it a stop between Mesopotamia and Persia.

Palmyra's strategic position and prosperity drew the attention of the Romans, who took control of the city of AD.

Known for his romantic beauty, Palmyra made a visit to the city by the Roman emperor Hadrianus in 129. He claimed that the city enjoyed free status and changed its name to Palmyra Hadriana.

After decades of preservation, in 2012-2013, the ruins at Palmyra were damaged by the conflict between Syrian government forces and rebel forces.

By May 5/2015, this ancient city became the focus of attention in the world when it became a fierce fighting place between Syrian government troops and Islamic IS rebels.

The unrest in Syria has made many concerned that this precious historical relic will be wiped out in the near future.
