Admire the rare phenomenon 'day without shadow'

On a "shadowless day", the sun's rays are perpendicular to the ground, with the result that vertical objects will not cast shadows.

In addition to cosmic events that only happen a few times in a person's lifetime, there are events that take place every year in some places on Earth but are equally interesting. One of these is "Lāhainā noon" or "shadowless day", according to IFLScience.

Twice a year, only a few places on Earth will have a time when the Sun is directly overhead, meaning the sun's rays are perpendicular to the ground, resulting in vertical objects not casting shadows. These places are all located in the tropics, between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Capricorn.

During "shadowless days" , when the Sun is at its zenith and the shadows of vertical objects are obscured by themselves, we are also closest to the Sun.

Hawaii, in the tropics, is the only US state with "shadowless days" , which usually fall in May and July every year.

"Day without shadow" has also been recorded in India, Singapore, Philippines.

According to the Philippine Star newspaper, the capital Manila and surrounding areas once recorded a "shadowless day" on April 29, 2021. On March 23, 2023, Singapore also experienced a "shadowless day".
