Adobe proposes to recognize ISO for PDF
Adobe Systems is promoting its Portable Document Format (PDF) specification to become the global standard recognized by the International Standards Organization (ISO).
On December 29, Adobe announced plans to submit a full PDF 1.7 specification to the nonprofit enterprise content management organization, AIIM, in the hope that the organization will recommend ISO to recognize PDF as an international standard. .
According to Sarah Rosenbaum, director of Adobe product management, the company proposed PDF to be an international standard because some parts of this specification have been recognized as ISO standards.
PDF / Archive (PDF) / A) and PDF / Exchange (PDF / X) are ISO certified, and two other components belong to PDF - PDF for Engineering (PDF / E) and PDF for Universal Access (PDF / UA) is also being reviewed for ISO standards, expected in the next 8-12 months.
In order to qualify for ISO, PDF 1.7 will undergo validation by a technical committee consisting of members of Adobe, Microsoft, and SAP AG firms. This committee will operate under the supervision of AIIM. The final result will be proposed by AIIM to ISO for standard or cancellation.
